BBC screw up
The BBC’s report on yesterday’s thrashing of Surrey by Essex includes the following line:
South African Ryan ten Doeschate continued the punishment for Surrey’s bowlers, blasting 60 from 31 balls.
South African? Yes he was born in South Africa, but as he is currently a Dutch international, he should be described as a Dutch cricketer. I expect in future to see the BBC describe Kevin Pietersen as South African, Owais Shah as Pakistani and Jamie Dalrymple as Kenyan.
I’m sending them a note pointing this out to them, I’ll let you know if it has any success.
**UPDATE**
The BBC replied to my e-mail within a few hours and have corrected the article. Good work BBC! It almost makes you worth the £140 I have to give you every year. Almost.
