ACC Trophy
The ACC Trophy Elite division also starts on Friday, and I’ve written a preview for CricketEurope here. The UAE are obviously favourites for the title, but second place, and the other spot in the 2010 Asia Cup, could be any one of six teams.

Afghanistan lift the title
After eight days of cricket, Afghanistan have lifted the WCL Division Five trophy, presented to them by former England captain Geoff Boycott. They beat Jersey by 2 wickets in a low-scoring, but exciting, final.
Jersey were bowled out for 80, Hastil Gul Abed taking the wickets at the top of the order with 3/17, whilst Hamid […]

Afghanistan and Jersey get promoted
Afghanistan and Jersey won today’s semi-finals of Division Five of the World Cricket League and will thus will join Fiji, Hong Kong, Italy and Tanzania in Division Four in Dar Es Salaam later in the year.
Nepal did nothing to dispel their South Africa style “chokers” tag, being bowled out for 105 chasing a low target […]

Group stage ends
The group stage ended today and Singapore were not able to beat Japan well enough to claim the spot in the semi-finals that they almost certainly deserve more than Afghanistan. They finished level on points with the Afghans, but with head to head result not being the first tie-breaker, they finish third in the group, […]

Rained out in Jersey
Today’s matches in Jersey were all rained off. It was originally hoped that one match would be able to be played, and the previously rained off Japan v Singapore match was scheduled, but that was also rained off and is now in the books as a no-result. All of today’s matches will now be played […]

Singapore stun Afghanistan in WCL5
Prior to the tournament, Afghanistan coach Taj Malik said that he would throw himself in the Atlantic if Afghanistan didn’t get promoted to Division Four. After today’s upset defeat by Singapore, he has one foot in the ocean.
Afghanistan’s fragile batting line-up was again exposed as they collapsed to 76 chasing a target of just 146. […]

WCL5 round-up
There was rain in the air again in Jersey today, but only the Japan v Singapore match was abandoned. Before the tournament, one of the most anticipated group matches was the contest between Nepal and Norway, but that turned into somewhat of an anticlimax, with Nepal running out easy winners by 108 runs. Mahaboob Alam […]

Bowlers rule in Jersey
It’s been a day for the bowlers in Jersey in Division Five of the World Cricket League. Chief amongst them of course is Mahaboob Alam of Nepal’s 10 wickets for 12 runs against Mozambique, but credit also must go to Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naid, who took a hat-trick amongst his 5/7 against the Bahamas.
It was low […]

Only Germany win
Only one match was completed on day two of WCL Division Five - Germany beating Vanuatu by six wickets. The remaining matches all lasted less than 30 overs and will be replayed tomorrow. Personally, I think that they should continue where they left off. No one wants to see a situation like the ICC Champions […]
