Johnston puts it all on the line
Former Ireland captain Trent Johnston has rediscovered his love of international cricket, returning to the ODI circuit after retiring earlier this year. But as Ger Siggins reports, it’s come at a personal cost.
Johnston was refused leave by his employer to take part in Ireland’s tour of Namibia and Kenya, so Johnston took the brave step of resigning so he could commit fully to Irish cricket. I know I go on about a certain Mr Morgan a lot, but Johnston’s attitude stands in stark contrast to that of Eoin Morgan.
Johnston is willing to rish his livelyhood to have one last hurrah for Ireland before he puts his feet up for a well deserved full retirement from international cricket, whilst Morgan seems to do pretty much anything to avoid having one last hurrah for Ireland before he follows Ed Joyce into the England set-up. Morgan would do well to learn from his former captain’s example.
